The Goddess Garden

Date

2021-2023

The parameters used to create this body of work started when I found a full spool of plastic twine in the street. Everything used was recycled, found, or at thrift stores. With twine used as warp I gathered materials that were polyester or non-biodegradable, things leftover that will never go away. Ribbons, stripped fabric, electrical cords, conduit, garden hose, garden netting, window screen, wire, etc. My small way of being kinder to our home by treating them with a new vision.

These three hand woven trees from recycled materials were created to help clean up the world. One tree at a time. My sense of environmental responsibility, my need to be outside, and my desire to make a woven sculpture all came together in the form of a tree garden.

With that in mind, I built an outdoor loom and gathered many found objects, bolts of fabric, all from around my studio and the trees were born.

I wanted to create a space in which you could find some peace. Each tree has it own unique quality using fancy ribbons, rope, and rubber on one and using tulle, conduit, and phone cords on another. I also collected tree limbs; cleaned and sealed the wood, reinforced with wire, wrapped in yarn etc. to create a “canopy” when attached to the tree.
